The Lord, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who gives victory; he will rejoice over you with gladness, he will renew you in his love;
June is one of my favorite months. While there are many things to celebrate in June, I admit, part of the reason June is my favorite month is because of my birthday falls in June. Another great joy in the month of June is the Summer Solstice. This year, the Summer Solstice falls on June 21st. On this day, the Sun reaches its highest position in the sky and is the day with the longest period of daylight in the Northern Hemisphere. On this long day, the Sun shines bright, the day is long, and it gives the opportunity for more time to enjoy the day. However I am also reminded that on this day, it is the longest day.
We all have those dreaded long days. The kind of day we express to others by saying, “Sheew, it sure has been a loooong day.” Sometimes these days are long because of the sheer amount of activities within them. Other times they are expressed as long because the amount of unpleasant things held within them. No matter what kind of day, it is on these types of long days that I like to remember the words of Zephaniah where he says, “the Lord, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who gives victory; he will rejoice over you with gladness, he will renew you in his love.” So during this June, allow us to look to the God who loves us so, that he is willing to travel along with us, even on these long days and renew our hearts with his love.
